Who holds the position of Commander-In-Chief?

The position of Commander-In-Chief is held by the President of the United States, a role that is defined in the U.S. Constitution. As of October 2023, the current President is Joe Biden, which means he is the Commander-In-Chief. Throughout U.S. history, each President has taken on this responsibility during their time in office, but the title does not remain with former presidents once they leave office.
