What is the mission of JROTC?

The mission of JROTC is fundamentally aimed at motivating young people to become better citizens. This comprehensive educational program focuses on instilling values of leadership, citizenship, character development, and community service in high school students. Rather than preparing students for military service, the program emphasizes life skills and personal responsibility, encouraging participants to take on active roles in their communities and become engaged and informed citizens. While the program does include aspects related to physical fitness and teamwork, these are secondary to the overarching goal of fostering a sense of civic duty and personal growth, which aligns with the focus on citizenship. Developing strategic combat skills is not part of the JROTC mission, as the program is not intended to prepare students for active duty but rather to prepare them for success in life as responsible citizens.
